Parquet

Nine years ago, my family said goodbye and sent Parquet over the Rainbow Bridge. I was living in Korea so my body wasn’t with him. My soul and spirit were though.
Parquet was an amazing cat. You might even say he was a Mighty Kool Kat. He wandered up onto the deck one day and came inside. He wasn’t feral; he was too tame. Of course we brought him inside and tried to find his owner. Obviously we never did.
Why Parquet? We have parquet flooring in all the bedrooms. We were trying to come up with a name that fit. I saw him laying on the floor in my room and I said, “Parquet is his name. He blends right in with the floor.” So Parquet he was. His nickname was Morris.
We took him to the vet and got him checked out. He was a couple years old. One thing the vet checked for was FIV. Parquet turned out to be positive. FIV is similar to HIV, but less deadly. Cats can live long lives when FIV+.
I honestly can’t remember how long he stayed with us.
Old age got him. When his made his trip, he had diabetes and asthma. He got insulin injections and had an inhaler with a little pet mask. He was always so calm when he got his meds.

I miss you Parquet. I know you’re up there frolicking with Jeepers.

Hello all!
My name is Kathryn. I live in suburban Cleveland. I have 2 cats, who are my kids. I work in early childhood education, specializing in infants at a local childcare center. I’ve also worked with preschoolers and school aged kids there. I used to be an ESL teacher in South Korea.
I love to bake. My coworkers get to be my taste testers. I enjoy coloring, and I even participate in a coloring Meet Up group. I’m a fan of all kinds of music, but country is my favorite. I started taking a tap class at a local dance studio. Ginger Rogers, I’m not. But I’m holding my own after *mumble years* away from it.
My kitties, Gidgette and Ivory, are my favorite models for my photography. I play around with photo editors to create what I call “Works of Art”. I’m not very good at it, but I do it anyway.
Please visit me at Mighty Kool Kat. You can find my links to social media there.
